Pemain Australia, Cameron Smith mencatat pukulan tanpa bogey untuk mendahului pusingan pembukaan kejohanan golf Klasik CIMB yang menawarkan hadiah wang tunai keseluruhan USD7 juta (kira-kira RM29.50 juta) di TPC Kuala Lumpur, Bukit Kiara hari ini.

Pemain berusia 24 tahun itu, melakukan lima birdie pada sembilan lubang pertama, dan menambah tiga lagi birdie pada sembilan lubang kedua untuk mencatat lapan bawah par 64.

“Pukulan saya menjadi dan banyak melakukan pukulan yang baik. Pusingan yang baik bagi saya hari ini,” ujar Smith.

Smith berkata beliau akan mengekalkan corak permainannya itu pada baki tiga lagi pusingan.

“Perancangan yang sama esok. Mengekalkan rentak permainan dan melakukan pukulan yang baik,” katanya.

Sementara itu, pemain golf profesional, Danny Chia (gambar) muncul pemain terbaik Malaysia pada pusingan pembukaan Klasik CIMB 2017.

Selepas memulakan saingan dengan melakukan dua bogey pada dua lubang pertama, Danny yang mula beralih menjadi pemain profesional pada 1996, bangkit dengan mencatat lima birdie untuk catatan dua bawah par 70.

Mengakui sedikit gementar pada permulaan sebelum kembali menemui rentak, Danny secara keseluruhannya berpuas hati dengan pencapaiannya pada hari ini.

“Saya agak gementar pada permulaan, namun kembali menemui rentak dan secara keseluruhan saya berpuas hati dengan prestasi hari ini.

“Pada lubang pertama, saya membuat pukulan yang baik namun tiba-tiba pukulan kedua saya tersasar. Seperti tidak percaya, perkara yang sama berlaku di lubang kedua,” kata pemain berusia 44 tahun itu.

Danny kini berkongsi di kedudukan ke-23 bersama-sama 13 pemain lain termasuk juara bertahan Justin Thomas dari Amerika Syarikat dan pemain ranking ketiga dunia, Hideki Matsuyama dari Jepun.

Pemain Malaysia lain yang turut beraksi pada kejohanan berkenaan, Nicolas Fung pula mencatat par 72 untuk berkongsi berada di tempat ke-44 bersama-sama 16 pemain lain.
